PEFC certification

PEFC certification

PEFC was established in Paris on June 30, 1999. It is composed of representatives of 11 official national PEFC management agencies, and has won the support of associations representing 15 million forest land owners in Europe and some international forest industry and trade organizations. The national forest certification system is formed and developed in the process of multi-stakeholders, and PEFC is a protection organization for the evaluation and mutual recognition of these systems. These national systems are established to promote sustainable forest management based on the process of intergovernmental activities. This series of ongoing mechanisms has won the support of 149 governments and covers 85% of the world's forest area.

Since its establishment, the number of members has continued to increase-there are currently 34 member states-and the number is still increasing; PEFC has become a larger forest certification and protection organization, including national systems around the world-Africa, Asia, Europe, North America America, South America, Atlantic Continent-Provide millions of tons of wood for the processing industry. Among PEFC members, there are 35 independent national forest certification systems. So far, 23 of them have passed strict evaluation procedures, involving public consultation and using independent evaluators to evaluate mutual recognition decisions made by all members. These 23 systems cover more than 200 million hectares of certified forests and supply millions of tons of certified wood to the market, making PEFC the largest certification system in the world. The membership systems of other countries are at different stages of development and are working towards mutual recognition with PEFC.
