Pan-European Forest Certification System

The PEFC certification standard is based on the standards and indicators formulated by the governments of the pan-European process, and is not binding on the countries participating in the certification. Most of the standards and indicators are not performance standards and indicators.

It is a certification system advocated by European private forest owners. According to PEFC's "Technical Document: Common Elements and Requirements", it recognizes the national certification systems and mutual recognition frameworks of European countries, and provides product marks. At present, there are more forest areas certified in the world.

The standards of the PEFC system, with the exception of Finland, the standards of different countries are formulated by private forest owners and wood processing companies, which exclude trade, environmental protection organizations, and consumers.

PEFC provides 3 ways of certification of the production and marketing chain of custody; (1) Input-output system. According to the proportion of PEFC-certified wood entering processing, the same proportion of certified products can be produced. (2) Smaller average ratio system. This method indicates that when the amount of certified wood invested exceeds 70%, the entire batch of products can be regarded as certified products and labeled. (3) Separate management. The certified timber will be managed separately from the uncertified timber. Among the three methods, the first two methods can only be said to promote sustainable forest management, while only the third method can prove that wood comes from sustainably managed forests.
