   The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification system is currently highly recognized by the market and is supported by non-governmental environmental organizations and trade organizations. It is also one of the two global systems (the other is the Forest Certification and Accreditation Scheme (PEFC) system )

　　FSC was established in 1993 and is a non-profit international organization headquartered in Bonn, Germany. FSC aims to promote forest certification and promote forest management activities that are environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically feasible. FSC has established a global network of FSC International Centers, regional offices and national initiatives.

In addition to paying attention to the quality of the wood itself, consumers of wood products further require that the origin of wood (forest) be well managed in accordance with internationally recognized standards, so that the environment can be maintained continuously, which is beneficial to society; therefore, many countries’ Consumers are required to show proof that the products they buy are "environmentally sound"

  The FSC/COC system involves responsible forest management and the provision of products to consumers; through COC, companies can prove that they have undertaken the environmental and social responsibilities of forest management and can use the FSC logo on their products

　　As of January 9, 2006, 68.13 million hectares of forests in 775 forest management units in 66 countries have passed FSC certification, and 4350 companies in 73 countries have passed Chain of Custody (COC) certification. Driven by the market and promoted by all parties, FSC has also developed rapidly in my country. As of the end of March 2006, a total of 137 wood processing companies in my country have passed the FSC COC certification, and 4 forest management units have passed the FSC forest. 　　 As the founder and supporter of FSC, the World Wide Fund for Nature China (WWF China) has been promoting the development of FSC in China, and is focusing on the establishment of the FSC China working group. In March 2001, WWF promoted the establishment of a multi-stakeholder forest certification working group in China, which was affiliated with the Science and Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Forestry as a neutral forum to promote the development of forest certification in China. At the end of 2005, under the joint promotion of WWF China and the Institute of Science and Information Technology of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, the FSC China Working Group process was officially launched to formulate China's FSC standards and promote the development of FSC in China. The inauguration ceremony of the China Working Group was held in Beijing in March 2006.

　　FSC is an independent, non-profit non-governmental organization whose mission is to promote environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically feasible forest management worldwide by formulating widely recognized forest management principles and standards. FSC is composed of representatives from environmental protection organizations, timber trade associations, government forestry departments, local residents’ organizations, social forestry groups, and timber product certification agencies from more than 70 countries. Its international center was originally located in the capital of Oaxaca, Mexico. The city of Jakarta, moved to Bonn, Germany in February 2003. FSC is currently a relatively mature and complete forest certification system.

　　 The main tasks of FSC are: assess, authorize and supervise certification agencies, provide guidance and services for the formulation of national and regional certification standards; and improve the national forest certification and sustainable forest management capabilities through education, training and demonstration and promotion activities.

　　FSC has established a global network, including FSC International Center, National Initiatives and Regional Offices.

　　FSC itself does not directly certify forests, it is a standard setting agency and accreditation agency. It has formulated a globally unified "FSC Principles and Standards" and accredited certification bodies to carry out certification. As of January 2006, FSC has accredited 15 certification bodies. Certified companies have the right to use the FSC logo.
