The origin of FSC certification

In 1993, the first FSC forest operation certificate (Mexico) and the first chain of custody certificate (USA) were issued.

In February 1996, FSC was registered in Mexico as a legal entity. For the first time, four forest operation certificates were signed. The first certified and labeled product-wooden spatula (sold in the UK). The first FSC Working Group (UK) was approved by the FSC Board of Directors. FSC members endorsed Standard 10 for planted forests.

In January 2003, the FSC Secretariat moved to the FSC World Base in Bonn, Germany, with 25 employees.

The Forest Management Committee (FSC) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization that unites everyone to promote the world's forest operations in charge and seek solutions to problems caused by poor forestry operations. It provides standards development, trademark guarantees, accreditation services and market access for companies and organizations interested in forests in which they serve.

FSC is a stakeholder-owned system, and its intention is to promote responsible global forest operations;

It recognizes independent third-party organizations that can certify forest operation units and forest product processing companies according to FSC standards;

Its trademark provides a worldwide recognition for organizations supporting the addition of forest operations;

Its product labels allow global consumers to distinguish products added by forest operations that support their duties in the world;

FSC opens marketing projects and information services that are conducive to promoting global forestry missions;

In the past 13 years, more than 100 million hectares of forests in 81 countries around the world have been certified in accordance with FSC standards. Thousands of products are produced from FSC-certified wood and hold FSC trademarks.

FSC is an independent, non-profit non-governmental organization whose mission is to promote environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically feasible forest operations worldwide by formulating widely recognized forest operation principles and standards. FSC is composed of representatives of environmental protection organizations, timber trading associations, government forestry departments, local residents' organizations, social forestry organizations, and wood product certification organizations from more than 70 countries. Its world base was originally located in the capital of Oaxaca, Mexico. The city of Jakarta, moved to Bonn, Germany in February 2003. FSC is a more sophisticated and complete forest certification system.
