DISNEY Manufacturer Code of Conduct

Our colleagues at The Walt Disney Company promise


 - Implement standards of excellence in all business areas and all over the world;


 - Strictly abide by professional ethics in all operations and behaviors, and have the courage to be responsible;


 - Respect the rights of all people; and


 - Pay attention to environmental protection.


 

We expect all manufacturers of Disney products to keep the same promise. We require all manufacturers of Disney products to meet at least the following standards:

 

child labor


Manufacturers must not employ child labor.


The term “children” refers to those who are under the age of (or under the age according to local regulations), or under the higher and lower legal employment age prescribed by local regulations, or under the age for completing compulsory national education.


Even if the young people employed by the manufacturer do not meet the above definition of a child, they must still comply with any relevant laws and regulations regarding such persons.


Non-volunteer workers


Manufacturers must not employ any forced or unvoluntary labor, regardless of whether it is prison labor, slave labor, indentured labor, or other labor.


Coercion and harassment


The manufacturer will give each employee dignity and respect, and shall not use corporal punishment, threats of violence, or other forms of physical, sexual, psychological, or verbal abuse.


Non-discrimination


Manufacturers shall not discriminate in hiring and employment practices, including wages, benefits, promotion, punishment, termination or retirement on the grounds of race, religion, age, nationality, social or ethnic group, sexual addiction, gender, political opinions or disability. Discrimination is practiced.



Association


The manufacturer will respect the rights of employees to form associations, organize and conduct collective bargaining in a legal and peaceful manner, without punishment or interference.


 

Health and safety


The manufacturer will provide employees with a safe and healthy workplace in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations, and ensure that they have at least reasonable access to drinking water and sanitation facilities; fire safety; and adequate lighting and ventilation


The manufacturer will also ensure that the same health and safety standards are implemented when providing any housing for employees.



Salary


We expect manufacturers to realize that wages are essential to meet the basic needs of employees. Manufacturers should at least abide by all relevant laws and regulations regarding wages and working hours, including laws and regulations related to lower wages, overtime, longer working hours, piece rate and other parts of remuneration, and provide legally prescribed benefits. If local laws do not provide for the payment of overtime wages, the manufacturer shall at least pay normal wages for overtime work. Unless there is a special business situation, the manufacturer shall not require employees to work more than the shorter of the following two (a) weekly working hours plus overtime hours or (b) local laws allow the restrictions on normal and overtime working hours, If the local law does not restrict working hours, the overtime hours will be overtime in addition to the normal working week of the country concerned. In addition, unless there are special business conditions, employees have the right to take at least one day off in every seven-day cycle.


If the local industry standards are higher than the relevant legal requirements, we expect manufacturers to comply with higher standards.

 

Environmental protection


The manufacturer will comply with all relevant environmental protection laws and regulations.


Other laws


The manufacturer will abide by all relevant laws and regulations, including the laws and regulations on the manufacture, pricing, BSCI factory inspection, sales and distribution of the goods.


All references to relevant laws and regulations in this Code of Conduct include local and national laws, regulations and related treaties and voluntary industry standards


 

Subcontract


Without the express written consent of Disney, the manufacturer shall not hire a subcontractor to manufacture Disney goods or its parts and accessories, and may only hire a subcontractor after the subcontractor has signed a written commitment to comply with this Code of Conduct with Disney.

 


Monitoring and compliance


The manufacturer will authorize Disney and its designated agents (including third parties) to conduct monitoring activities to confirm compliance with this Code of Conduct, including unannounced, on-site inspections of manufacturing facilities and housing provided by employers; review of relevant employment matters Account books and records; and private interviews with employees. The manufacturer will keep on site all the documents needed to show that this Code of Conduct has been complied with.

The manufacturer will take appropriate steps to ensure that this Code of Conduct is communicated to all employees, including posting a copy of this Code of Conduct in the local language in prominent places where all employees can enter and exit at any time.
